Payroll Administrator

Reports to:               People Support Manager

Package: (salary dependant on experience)

Hours of Work:

Hours of work will be a minimum of 37.5 hours per week however must be prepared to be fully flexible and work where and when required to meet the needs of the business.


Mainly Altrincham but with occasional visit to stores across the North of England.

Job Purpose:         

The role is predominantly accountable for supporting the People Support Manager in the day to day running of the Payroll function of the business. 

Secondary function is to support the HR and Academy functions of the business.

Key Payroll Responsibilities:

  • Management of the 3 fortnightly payrolls including processing sickness, maternity, paternity leave and expenses
  • Process of any attachment of earnings
  • Process P32 payments
  • Ensure the Apprenticeship Levy payment is accurate for all companies
  • Compile the data for Sim Trava’s Gender Pay Gap
  • Process fortnightly People’s Pension Schemes for all companies
  • Produce 12 week average hours worked on fortnightly basis
  • A full understand of the Bizimply time and attendance system, Sage 50 payroll, Ezora and DAS account
  • Ensuring that all colleagues are working their contract hours and payroll records are kept up-to-date in accordance with HMRC
  • Ensuring that the annual pay review is process for all stores
  • Ensure bonus payments for Assistant Managers are processed
  • Responsible for processing Year End Payroll and issuing P60s in a timely manner
  • Ensuring compliance with HMRC, GDPR, Payroll, Auto-Enrolment, Gender Pay and Apprenticeship Levy legislation at all times
  • Understand the implications of BREXIT on Sim Trava Colleagues
  • Understand the impact of payroll on Finance Department
  • Liaising with HMRC and other external agencies relating to colleague remunerations
  • Delivering a Payroll workshop and training of Store and Assistant Managers in Payroll Procedures
  • Answering any colleague questions and queries in a timely manner

Sim Trava Colleagues

  • Enter all new starter onto systems: Sage; Workplace; Tills
  • Enter all sickness onto Sage
  • Following any transfer or re-grade update on Sim Trava systems
  • Ensure all holiday’s are accurate on Bizimply and spreadsheets
  • Process all maternity and paternity requests
  • Advise HRA and PSM of any up and coming recognition: colleague birthday, service awards 

External correspondence

  • To respond to any correspondence from external bodies (such as Job Centre Plus, DWP) in relation to employees’ past and present

Sim Trava Academy

  • Work with the Academy Manager to set up a robust booking system for all training sessions 8 weeks in the future
  • Ensure that the training room, workbooks, refreshments / coffee and milk are booked / are available in readiness for the Academy Manager
  • Ensure that all paperwork is issued in a timely manner
  • Ensure that all paperwork is received in a timely manner and approved by the relevant manager
  • Ensure that all feedback is received following all training sessions

Office Management

  • The office space in Altrincham is clean and tidy at all times
  • Collate company credit cards are completed by Central Team and forwarded to Finance department in a timely manner
  • Monitor company mobile phone usage
  • Welcome visitors into Central Office and offer refreshments
  • Collect, open and distribute mail
  • Manage the Sim Trava Birthday Card scheme
  • Co-ordinate stationery and toner cartridge orders
  • Support the People Support Manger when organising special events ie long service events and / or team building events
  • At all times be an Ambassador for the Sim Trava Values

People Support Strategy

  • Work alongside and support the People Support Manager on project work relating to: talent management, colleague engagement, reward and recognition, communication and the Sim Trava Academy
  • Support People Support Manager with the daily HR tasks in relation to performance management and People policies and procedures

In addition to the above functions the post holder will be required to carry out such other duties as may reasonably be required.



Salary £22,500 to £26,000 per annum
